Fire blight plant protection efficacy trial with resistant apple cultivar ‘Ladina’

چکیده
Abstract Fire blight is a devastating disease of apple, pear and quince caused by the Gram-negative bacterium Erwinia amylovora . As antibiotics are not allowed against fire in Switzerland, optimization alternative plant protection strategies required. In this context, tolerant cultivars become higher importance to control disease. A product efficacy trial with susceptible cultivar ‘Gala Galaxy’ ‘Ladina’ bred at Agroscope was set up Steinobstzentrum Breitenhof 2018. Four different treatment strategies, including an untreated control, were tested on both after inoculation showed less blossom cluster infection treated plants compared Galaxy’. Blossom rates following treatments did differ significantly from each other whereas they ‘Ladina’.

Analysis of Fire Blight Shoot Infection Epidemics on Apple
Fire blight of apple (Malus × domestica Borkh.) can be found throughout the United States and many other countries and is a serious problem on trees of susceptible apple cultivars (9). Fire blight is caused by the bacterium Erwinia amylovora and occurs also on pear, quince, Rubus spp., and several other rosaceous hosts. The initial inoculum in an established orchard comes from overwintering can...
متن کاملDevelopment of the First Cisgenic Apple with Increased Resistance to Fire Blight
The generation and selection of novel fire blight resistant apple genotypes would greatly improve the management of this devastating disease, caused by Erwinia amylovora. Such resistant genotypes are currently developed by conventional breeding, but novel breeding technologies including cisgenesis could be an alternative approach. A cisgenic apple line C44.4.146 was regenerated using the cisgen...
متن کاملFire blight disease reactome: RNA-seq transcriptional profile of apple host plant defense responses to Erwinia amylovora pathogen infection
The molecular basis of resistance and susceptibility of host plants to fire blight, a major disease threat to pome fruit production globally, is largely unknown. RNA-sequencing data from challenged and mock-inoculated flowers were analyzed to assess the susceptible response of apple to the fire blight pathogen Erwinia amylovora. In presence of the pathogen 1,080 transcripts were differentially ...
متن کاملCrab apple blossoms as a model for research on biological control of fire blight.
ABSTRACT Nonseasonal availability of pomaceous flowers could improve laboratory detection and prefield testing of biocontrol agents for fire blight of pear and apple. Crab apple was selected as a model because of its high flower productivity on 1-year-old wood, high susceptibility to fire blight, and availability from nurseries. Cultivars Manchurian and Snowdrift were manipulated to bloom once ...
متن کاملBiological Control Agents for Fire Blight of Apple Compared Under Conditions Limiting Natural Dispersal
Fire blight, which is a major constraint to pome fruit production in many areas of the world, is most commonly initiated by epiphytic populations of Erwinia amylovora that develop on blossoms (1,26). Under relatively dry climatic conditions, bacteria colonize flower stigmas, and subsequent rain or heavy dew facilitates movement to the floral cup (hypanthium), where infection generally occurs (2...
